Srabonti
is a talented dancer and a choreographer. She has trained in Indian Classical
Dancer with the Odissi Dance form being her primary area of interest. She
studied Indian Classical Dance at the prestigious Rabindra
Bharati University
in Kolkata, India and graduated with a first
class in MA . She has trained under the
mentorship of her internationally renowned guru Arundati Roy since the age of
twelve. This talented dancer was also selected to attend workshops conducted by
renowned classical dancers - Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra in 1998, Guru Sanjukta
Panigrahi in 1996 & Ms.Ilena Citarasti in 1989.
As
a young dancer , her talent was recognized and appreciated at various
platforms where she won numerous awards
and accolades .
- First in the
Classical Dance Competition (Odissi) organized by Kolkata Nagarik
Sammelan-1998;
- Second in the
Classical Dance Competition (Odissi) organized by Rajya Sangit
Academy , Kolkata - 1997.
- Third in the
Classical Dance Competition (Odissi) in the First National Youth Festival
(Rastriya Yuva Utsav) held in Bhopal
-1996
- First in the
Classical Dance Competition (Odissi) from West Bengal
for the preliminary selection for the First National Youth Festival
(Rastriya Yuva Utsav) –1996.
She
has also featured in the The National Award winning film “Yaganta”, directed by
Smt. Aparna Sen –1996 and the The Hindi Tele-Serial “Jadugari”, directed by
Shri. Dinen Gupta-1998.
With
her strong background in dance she moved into choreography . She started
choreographing as well as performing not
only in cultural festivals in India but also internationally in Singapore and Malaysia .
- Notable amongst her performance in India
were the prestigious Dover Lane Dance & Music Conference
in Kolkata, The Puri Beach Festival
and Konark Festival in Orissa, India .
- In Singapore
she
- Conceptualized & Directed dance drama “Teen Kanya” based on
Rabindra Nath Tagore's three famous works (Chitrangada, Chandalika &
Shyma) to celebrate Tagore's birthday in 2008
- Choreographed Tagore's dance drama “Shapmochon” in 2007.
- Performed for the His Excellency The President of Singapore
for a Hindu Endowment Board Cultural Program
- Performed & Choreographed Classical Odissi Dance Programs for
the Singapore Bengali
Association Singapore
at the Singapore
Polytechnic Auditorium and NUS Cultural Center in 2004.
- In Malaysia
- She Organized Classical Dance and Musical Workshop at The Temple of Fine Arts
International, Kuala Lampur,
Malaysia.
- Participated in Classical Odissi Dance Programmers at Temple of Fine Arts,
Sarada Sangha (Ramkrishna Mission), & Bengali Culture Association in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia.
Recently
she and her Guru Arundati Roy conceptualized , directed and choreographed “Navras
“ – expressing the 9 Rasas
through a fusion of all classical dance forms . This program conducted at NUS Singapore in May 2011 was in joint collaboration
with India and Singapore
and sponsored by Tagore Society of Singapore.
